PackExpo 2023 – Las Vegas, NV
September 11-13
2023
This year, EDANA and INDA, the leading global nonwovens associations, have jointly launched the 2021 edition of standard procedures for the nonwovens and related industries. The Nonwovens Standard Procedures (NWSP) provides test procedures and guidance to support quality applications across the nonwovens and related industries.
What is a nonwoven? By definition, a nonwoven is made of fibers held together by interlocking or bonding (as by chemical or thermal means) and not woven, knitted or felted. Nonwoven material has continued to expand to applications and markets that include apparel, filtration, medical/healthcare, packaging, wipes and electronics. This is a versatile material that can be made to meet a wide range of properties such as absorbency, filtering, liquid repellency, softness, stretch, strength and cushioning.
As the use of nonwoven materials continues to grow and new applications develop, the need to accurately measure key physical attributes of nonwovens has grown with it. Some of these critical properties include tensile strength, tear resistance, thickness, absorbency and puncture resistance and the NWSP documentation helps to maintain consistency for quality of these materials.
Thwing-Albert works closely with our customers to ensure that they are selecting the appropriate equipment for their specific needs and to meet the testing requirements published in specific Nonwovens Standard Procedures (Edana and INDA test methods).
The VantageNXÂ Materials Tester provides the versatility to meet multiple Edana/INDA standards for tensile strength, mechanical burst resistance and tear resistance. These include NWSP 100.2.R1, 100.3.R0, 110.1.R0, 110.4.R0 and 110.5.R0. In addition, we offer a fixture that can accurately measure compressibility. |
Our ProTear Elmendorf meets NWSP 100.0.R0 and can be configured with specific pendulum ranges based on the strength of your material. Options include an Automatic Pendulum Return and MAP4 Software. |
Our Handle-O-Meter has been used for decades to measure the stiffness of nonwoven and textile materials. This instrument meets the requirement of NWSP 090.3.R0 and can be optioned with our MAP4 Software for enhance data analysis and storage. |
The ProGage Thickness Tester is a highly accurate and easy use micrometer for measuring nonwoven thickness per NWSP 120.1.R0 and 120.6.RO. This instrument is designed to allow the user to change the pressure foot and weight to meet virtually any thickness measurement requirement. |
