Thwing-Albert is the US distributor for the J&B Hot Tack Tester 5000MB, a dedicated hot tack testing instrument designed and built for automatic measurement of heat seal strength on flexible packaging materials.
Hot tack is distinct from final seal strength. Final seal strength — measured after a seal has fully cooled — is covered under our Seal Strength testing category. Hot tack measures the seal at the moment it is first stressed, before cooling. This distinction matters because a seal that performs well in a cold peel test can still fail on a high-speed packaging line if its hot tack strength is insufficient.
Hot tack testers are used by producers of raw materials, plastic films, and laminates; extruders; packaging machine manufacturers; food and chemical companies; and R&D and quality control laboratories running SQC/SPC programs on heat-sealable packaging materials.
Hot tack testing equipment from Thwing-Albert is designed to fulfill the requirements of ASTM F1921 — Standard Test Methods for Hot Seal Strength (Hot Tack) of Thermoplastic Polymers and Blends Comprising the Sealing Surfaces of Flexible Webs.
