Z-Directional force (ZDT) measures internal bond strength and fiber bond strength in single-ply sheets of paperboard, liner board, coated fine papers and other paper materials. This property indicates the expected performance of materials in relation to the glue-bonding of cartons, high tack coating use and delamination. ZDT testing is similar to internal bond testing, but in this format, testing is completed on a Universal Testing Machine Frame such as the VantageNX.

VantageNX Tensile Testing Machine

The VantageNX Universal Testing Machine uses various fixtures and grips to test ZDT and the coefficient of friction and tensile strength in paper and paperboard materials. MAP4 software enables these various testing capabilities for industry-standard and custom testing methods. This instrument meets various standards from ASTM, ISO, TAPPI, DIN and others. Capacity options include 1 kN, 2 kN and 5 kN.

RL-IBT-A Internal Bond Tester

The RL-IBT-A Internal Bond Tester determines the internal bond strength of paperboard and paper materials. The sturdy steel frame holds a pendulum mechanism and measuring area to hold the sample.

Testing involves releasing the pendulum to hit the aluminum angle. When the sample is pushed away, the required energy is measured and displayed on the built-in digital display. This instrument is applicable to standards TAPPI T833 and T569.

Vantage Z-Directional Tensile Tester

The Vantage ZDT Tester precision instrument measures the internal fiber bond strength of paper materials, including liner board, coated fine papers and paperboard. These measurements indicate to manufacturers the expectations of the material’s performance. The ZDT Tester automatically compresses the sample and measures dwell time and Z-Directional force. This instrument adheres to ISO 15754 and TAPPI T541.
