Extensometers

These Extensometers are designed for use with the VantageNX.

Advantages of Extensometer Testers

Extensometers allow technicians to obtain precise strain and deformation measurements of a sample when under load. Accurate results are integral to ensure industry standards are met, and these results are necessary if the system compliance is undetermined.

Technicians can choose the extensometer they need for testing based on factors such as:

  • The level of accuracy required
  • Anticipated deformation
  • Sample geometry
  • Type of sample being tested

All of our extensometers can be used with the MAP4 materials testing software and are designed for use with our Vantage-NX line of materials testers.

Extensometers From Thwing-Albert

High Elongation Extensometer

The high elongation extensometer tests the elongation of elastomeric materials, such as plastic film, semi-rigid plastics, vinyl and rubber. With quick-release clamps, technicians can use the extensometer with ease — including single handedly — to load and test samples quickly.

This instrument is designed for use with the VantageNX Universal Materials Tensile Tester. Results are displayed automatically in MAP4 software.

TA3442 Miniature Extensometer

The TA3442 extensometer is a small, lightweight model compliant with ISO 9513 and ASTM Class B1 requirements. Its low operating force exerts minimal influence on the sample. Limited space between grips holds small test samples, and the gauge length ranges between 3 and 50 millimeters (mm). Use this extensometer with materials that have lower deformation under load, such as composites, metal, rigid plastics and wire.

TA3542 Axial Extensometer

The TA3542 extensometer tests general use strain during axial compression and tensile. It features a gauge length of 10 to 80 mm and is used with materials with low deformation under load, such as rigid plastics, composites, metal and wire.

The TA3542 model complies with several common industry standards, including ISO 6892-1, 10113, 527-5, 527-4, 527-2 and ASTM E646, E517, D3552, A370, D638, D3039, E8 and E9.

TA3800 High Elongation Extensometer

The TA3800 high elongation extensometer is designed to test strain and length change in a sample to the point of failure. Its results are accurate within 1 mm, making this instrument ideal for applications requiring trustworthy results.

The adjustable magnetic base mounts the sample with ease to enable reliable testing procedures. The main body remains stationary while the lightweight traveling heads move to record measurements.

Use this extensometer with high elongation materials, including rubber, semi-rigid plastics and plastic films. It has a measuring range of 500 mm.
