Handle Pull Fixture

This fixture was designed to test overall strength of a reinforced handle on a plastic bag.  The fixture simulates a hand holding the sample and the test measures the breaking point to evaluate pass/fail conditions. The handle pull fixture can be used for various pull strength or peel strength tests.

  • Bag handle strength (plastic/paper)
  • Bag/pouch hole punch strength
  • Lid/tray removal force
  • Peel
  • Other custom application

Description

The handle pull strength test fixture (part #720-3004) is designed to simulate a hand holding a bag.  The test measures the overall strength of a reinforced handle on a plastic bag when filled.

For this application a plastic film bags with a die punched handle is tested, the goal is to ensure the bag is strong enough to hold from the handle with at least 100lbs in the bag.

Using MAP4 Materials Testing Software with the Vantage Universal Tester the test would run until there was a failure of the handle or another part of the bag.  MAP4 analysis included force traps at 20lb, 40lb, 80lb in order to determine the elongation/stretch of certain forces.  The overall force and stretch required for handle failure are also reported.  Handle strength is reported lbs/in but units of measure can be modified.

  • Upper hook fixture attaches to the load cell, it is used to loop through the handle as a hand would on a bag.

The handle pull fixture is ideal for various pull strength tests:

  • Bag handle strength (plastic/paper)
  • Bag/pouch hole punch strength
  • Lid/tray removal force
  • Peel
  • Other custom application

NOTE:  This fixture does not include a lower grip to secure the sample during the pull. Please consult with your Thwing-Albert representative for the appropriate lower grip if required.
